The context
Around 85% of Dubai's population are expatriates, and the mix of nationalities and languages makes it hard to meet people. Farasha is a social app that helps students of different backgrounds find others with a similar mindset.
The team
Farasha was a team project for my BSc in Information Technology at Middlesex University Dubai. My report covers the second phase, prototype and design. I was one of the two designers on the team, and we built the mid- and high-fidelity screens in Figma.
From research to features
The first phase produced three personas and a journey map. From their pain points we took three core features: meeting people with similar interests, filtering out fake news, and privacy.
We storyboarded each feature and tested the storyboards with four people, all of whom followed them.
Design
- An object-operation analysis and a concept map in Mural, built around Explore, Find Friends and the Forum.
- Crazy 8s sketching, with the team voting on the best idea for each screen.
- Low-, mid- and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, with the rest of the team testing each stage.
- A detailed mockup annotated against Donald Norman's design principles.
